I've been truly blessed with my in laws. Lovely people! I have to say I love Mary and Catherine as if they were my own sisters - and both of their husbands are man jewels, as we say in Ireland. And I am looking forward so much to seeing them all next week when we go home to Dublin. Mary is coming over from England on June 6th and Angie has kindly invited the whole kit and caboodle of us down to the Old Schoolhouse. It will be bliss! Catherine will be recovering from surgery, so the weekend away will be a nice break.
Anyway, I gave myself a swift kick in the you-know-what and got going on some things to bring home. I can't say what I'm bringing the sis's, 'cos they read this blog, but I sure can tell what I'm bringing for Mary and Catherine.
Mary wears black when dressing up, as many of us do, so this will hopefully complement an evening outfit for her.
It's made with silver filigree and silver hogan beads and black diamond Swarovski crystals. And the clasp is a Bali silver one I've been keeping by for a special occasion.
Catherine loves pastel colors and often wears pink, so this is the version I've made for her.
Same silver beads, but this time with Swarovski rosaline pearls and another hoarded Bali clasp.
Now you know I've become slightly obsessed (who me? Never! Well, maybe - ask my sisters!) with Pandora style bracelets and recently bought a knock off which I've been dressing up with lovely lampwork beads. I thought "why not a necklace?" So........................I used a heavy silver chain, and a box clasp (the skinny end passes easily through the large silver core hole in the lampwork beads. Now I can swap out the beads at will - wear one, or a variety or whatever I fancy! Here's the chain and some of the lovely beads I got on EBay.
All this is a great distraction from the heavy rain we've been having for the last 3 days - on top of the spring snow melt, it's becoming a real problem. 3 years ago, the house we owned at the time flooded - what a nightmare. We had to rip out all the carpets, much of the drywall and insulation and replace it all. And insurance didn't cover it, since it was groundwater and not sewage backup (thank God for that much). And this was only weeks before Angie and Ed were coming for vacation, too. This morning, I woke up to my new neighbors running around with pumps, trying to move water away from their houses (and their neighbors houses too). I nearly had a fit! I just kept thinking "not again - please God, not again." We've only been here in this new house for 18 months. It looks like the neighbors have succeeded so far - no water in my basement. It's still raining cats and dogs though.
Bead on, ladies! I will continue beading even as I board the ark my hubby is building in the backyard.
